Semester 1 Orientation or “O-Week” runs from Monday 20 February 2017 until Friday 24 February 2017.
O-Week includes a broad range of activities incorporating pre-enrolment and enrolments (for those wishing to enrol in person) as well as a campus-wide program of orientation activities. There are events in this week that are relevant to the degree-specific major or Area of Interest (Arts, Commerce, Design, Engineering Science or Science) you are studying that you will need to attend.
Attendance at Orientation is expected and considered essential, because it is important for you to become familiar with the campus and meet other students and University staff, so please plan to be here.
International full-degree and Study Abroad & Student Exchange students will attend the International Student Welcome & Expo. This program is important to assist international students in meeting the requirements of their course. The Welcome is the perfect opportunity to meet key staff from International Student Support and the Global Learning Office and discover what supports and services are available to international students. This is also a great chance to meet other international students commencing at UWA and a chance for you to meet and make new friends.
To help you draft your own first year study plan, you should attend the scheduled course planning activities held on campus.
Enrolment Help Drop-in Session will take place for any students who have not yet enrolled. This will include domestic and full degree international students and any Study Abroad & Student Exchange students who have not yet enrolled. If you feel confident in completing your enrolment and class timetable online (remotely from a home computer) you are encouraged to do so. We have provided a number of videos and resources on this website to help step you through the process.
You will be required to attend the specific orientation day related to your degree-specific major (e.g. Geology, Architecture, Accounting, French) or Area of Interest (Arts, Commerce, Design or Science).
Commencement Ceremonies will be held for commencing students. The ceremonies provide a formal welcome to the University by a university dignitary and the UWA Guild President. Students also receive a Noongar Welcome to Country.
Following the ceremonies, you will attend the "Typical First Week" information session which will highlight everything you need to know to get you started in your first week on campus. You will also join in with new students and an Orientation Ambassador (from your major area of study) to undertake a tour of the campus and faculty precincts and discover what the campus has to offer.
In stage four of UniStart you will be able to check the specific events you need to attend (according to your course) on the orientation schedule.
Friday is the UWA Student Guild O-Day Festival on James Oval.
Students who missed the opportunity to enrol on Tuesday can attend an enrolment session on this day only.
